A Letter From The Curators

Crafts are inherited hand to hand — not screen to screen.

— Curated by Ekta Art and Craft Sansthan & Maitreya Organization, in continuation of the Hasthkala Business Growth Workshop, May 2026.

India's living crafts are not merely techniques — woh ek tarah ke loanwords h jo har generation apni zubaan mein bol-bol kar aage badhati h. Aaj jab YouTube tutorials, AI-generated patterns, aur factory replicas hamare around heavy traffic banaye baithe h, ek pareshani saaf dikhai deti h: the hand is being forgotten.

"Aap kitabein padh sakte ho. Videos dekh sakte ho. Lekin clay ki naazuk pakad, suit ke baareek dhaagon ka tension, kalam ke first stroke ka confidence — yeh sab sirf master ke saamne baith ke aata h."

Issi vajah se humne The Masters' Series design ki h. Ye koi tourist demo nahi h; ye ek genuine apprenticeship intensive h — short-form, intensive, aur National Awardees ke saath. Har craft ko 3 din mein, 9 hands-on sessions mein cover karte h. Studio-style cohorts, max 20 seats, intimate.

Curated for: students, designers, artisans-in-training, collectors, NRI returners, and anyone curious enough to keep these crafts alive. Aap kisi bhi background se ho — aapko welcome h.

The price is intentional. ₹500 a session keeps the door wide open — heritage shouldn't be a luxury good. Travel, scholarships, and dispatch options humne baad ke section mein detail ki h.

First Cohort · 2026–27

Paanch crafts. Paanch masters. Teen-din ke intensives.

Ye programs proposed mode mein hain — first cohort ki specific dates, faculty names, aur intake numbers cohort confirmation pe lock honge. Notified list mein register karne walo ko pehla pata milega, aur first-pick bhi unhi ka.

01

Miniature Painting

Mughal · Rajasthani schools

Wasli paper se ek-baal ki kalam tak — courtroom-era discipline. Mineral pigment grinding, single-hair brushwork, layered shading.

02

Terracotta Sculpture

Molela plaque tradition

Chikni mitti aur pinda se equestrian deity figures. Coil, pinch, kiln-fire — Rajsamand district ka GI-tagged style.

03

Kashidakari & Gota Patti

Bridal couture tradition

Aari needle, gota ribbon, salma-sitara sequin work. The wedding-trousseau discipline that built Jaipur's heritage retail.

04

Lakh Art

Maniharon ka Rasta · Jaipur

Heated lakh ko rolling-board pe shape karna, bharat ke saath kundan-glass embed. Real lakh — plastic imitation se alag.

05

Patwa Jewellery

Patwa community · Jaipur

Cotton/silk dori, gunthna technique, kundan adaptation. Six generations ki family-knotting — thread tension as discipline.

Each masterclass: 3 din · 9 sessions · cohort-size 16–20 · taught by recognised masters under the guidance of Patron Shri Trilok Chand. Full curriculum, faculty names, aur cohort dates — sab notified list ke saath pehle share honge.

The Faculty

Paanch crafts. Paanch masters. Names revealed at cohort lock.

Faculty selection in process under Patron Shri Trilok Chand's guidance. Har craft ke liye nationally-recognised authority — Padma Shri, Shilp Guru, ya National Awardee category — confirm hone par notified list ko pehle reveal kiya jaayega. Hum invent nahi kar rahe; hum pakka karke bata rahe hain.

Voices from 9 May 2026

What participants said about the Hasthkala Workshop

"

I came expecting a craft demo. I left having sat next to a master, having actually made something, and with a paper trail of progress. The Hasthkala Workshop changed how I see traditional crafts — not as decoration, but as discipline.

Priya M.
Design student, NIFT Jaipur
"

The intimacy of the cohort made it special. Ten people, one master, three days. No filler.

The Masters' Series builds on that pilot, deepens the format, and brings in National Awardee instructors.
